Why Do So Many People In America Bash Pale Skin?

So many people are saying pale skin is sickly and plain and boring in the USA. I don’t get. In most countries than not, pale skin has been the standard of beauty and still is. The skin whitening business is far larger than the tanning one. Also why is a tan pretty when it’s just skin damage so that would make it damaged? That’s like saying jaundice is pretty. Also is a non-white woman lightens her skin, she MUST be white-washed and trying to be white. What if she just likes pale skin? A lot of movements promote blacks not to sell out and get skin lightening and embrace their darker skin but no one promotes white people not to get a tan or embrace their pale skin (the ones that have naturally pale skin). Isn’t that unfair and prejudiced? White people with both natural and unnatural darker skin are promoted as sexy and ultimate beauty and being pale is like ewwww. I don’t get it. Why is America so hard on pale skin when no other country is (even the UK’s tan craze is winding down)?

  1. Well, i believe that pale skin is bashed, but dark skin is bashed as well. But understand that much of that (bashing) is from ppl who are light- or pale-skinned. I think that the tan is a sign of outdoorsiness, recreation (sometimes hard work). Everyone needs sunlight for physiological well-being.
In light of race, i don’t necessarily feel that a White person who wants to get tanned is “trying to look Black”; even as Occidental Blacks are in all shades and colors. There are olive-skinned ppl who ARE White or a race other than Black/African. But Blacks, Black Americans deal with a lot of internal racism. As beautiful and tan as Jamaican women are, i heard that many of them are bleaching their skin with chemicals to appear lighter in complexion. This reminds me of the song “Nose Job” from Digital Underground.
Most of the Black women I’m attracted to are dark-skinned. All women of all colors are beautiful, however. Part of the reason why i like dark skin is that I’m insecure with my very Blackness. I guess it represents a pedigree to me. Even my little brother is much darker than me. So, while I’m milk chocolate brown-skinned i still don’t feel Black enough.
Ultimately ppl should feel proud and comfortable with the skin they’re in. A red-haired green-eyed or blue-eyed platinum blond person is just as beautiful to me as a blue-black sloe-eyed person (and everyone in between on the colors spectrum). I would judge skin beauty from a dermatological perspective.

  2. heh ahh well it’s how i look and i seem to pull it off nicely, for as long as opinion varies there will never be an ultimate beauty just a majority and a minority opinion and since neither changes what i am i don’t pay attention, let ‘im think i look ill

  3. Because it is a sign of being sickly, maybe with an STD. period. very unhealthy looking.
Interesting-who says America is “so hard” on pale skin.

  4. Although i don’t agree with bashing, “pale skin” isn’t exactly the most appealing

  5. idk…i think every skin tone is beautiful….the actors/actress on twilight had very pale skin and everyone agrees that they were all gorgeous…

  6. I was talking to an American about this the other day. I live in England and although every British person jumps at a sunny day to go and sit on the beach because it happens about 3 times a year. Alot of the girls I know try and avoid sitting in the sun too long so that they skin stays fair and put alot of white foundation make up on so that they skin looks whiter, also being extremely skinny is not seen as attractive to the extent it is in California, so not every girl is counting calories

  7. Becuase at one time pale skin in American (and still is in some countries) was considered a sign of higher class becuase you didn’t have to work out in the sun.
NOW the US has flipped the switch and pale skin is a sign of poverty and sickliness becuase you don’t have enough time to tan like rich people on beaches. The glow of a tan is seen as healthy.
I’m not saying these things are right, it’s just how the bronzer, fake tan, and tanning bed industry wishes Pale people to see tan skin.
I think it’s all an industry and it’s disgusting. As a caramel skinned woman who loves her skin color I think all people should embrace the tone they are born with.
I think alabaster and porcelain skin is very pretty and fake tans are dangerous and it’s better to just embrace your natural color. Maybe at least you should see it as an oppotunity to understand how Blacks have felt for centuries in the US. And in all honesty, still do feel, as we all know a tan is only accepted as someone once said, “As long as the base coat is white.”
PS And whether or not you think so, pale skin does NOT age as well as darker skin as it shows more imperfections. Though you are right and tanning will accelarate the aging process. Say what you will but Black don’t Crack. lol

  8. actually its not winding down in the UK people still look better with tans.makes you look more leaner attractive and sunkissed. some people suit pale but most people don’t, it makes them look dull washed out and sick.
EDIT: actually you see people like Rihanna on covers of mags more often than them,(just unknown models on the covers)and Rihanna has tanned type skin tho its natural.

  9. dude come on now lets cut the crap. pale skin is hardly a positive thing. you can see blue veins etc . i mean come on now lets kick some real ballistics here
