Do You Think Filipinos Are Being Brainwashed To Believe That Being White Is Better?

Companies like Unilever (and others) spend billions marketing skin whitening products to Filipinos. Why is white skin better? Why do they want to sell a product that changes the natural tone of your skin? Why do some Filipinos want to be white, or let me ask, why are they not happy being dark skinned?
What has happened to our society on this earth when marketing forces attempt to drive people to think that the color of their skin will somehow make their life better, and at the same time make these companies HUGE profits?
This is the measure of rational thinking. This is what it boils down to;
Are you white and superior or dark and inferior?
STOP THE WHITENING NOW!

the brainwashing happened a long time ago, and is still continuing. it is being manufactured in media (actors and actresses all having smooth, white skin etc). these large companies are investing on this inferiority attitude of people who have relatively “dark” skin. and from the commercials they produce, the message is clear– white is better. there are no inherent values to the skin color, meaning that white is not inherently better than dark. it just so happened that those who had the power were the whites and the powerless in turn were the brown and black-colored folks. of course, power has to be maintained and deemed natural even when it comes to the skin color aspect. people, the mass consumers, do not always realize things the way you do. and it’s a sad sad thing to be deemed imperfect with your natural attributes. i detest skin whitening products as much as you do. but i don’t know what else we can do, when this ideology of white skin domination is instilled in the consciousness of many. i don’t know if there is a way to reverse it when maket forces are up and about.

Sometimes, those products are used to even out the skin tone as well. Skin of color tends to scar easily, and it tends to get dark spots after swelling or injury (mine is this way, I’m half Native American.) I use a hydroquinone cream on the dark spots, and it evens everything out nicely.
I don’t see it as being any different than using tanning lotions (which I also have used to even things out, although not succesfully.)

No. I don’t believe that because brainwhash is when someone litterly brainwash others using tactics. Filipinos never were brainwhashed. They just believe white are better, they thinks white are better because you have to remember filipinos did not know much of education before white men came. So it really impressed them.

these companies are going to sell whitening products as long as the people keep buying them.
But it’s funny that a lot of white people want to be dark and go to tanning salons. A lot of people are not happy with who they are

I agree with you bit it is not just in the Philippines. In South Korea it is quite common to have an operation to change the shape of their eyes so they look less asian. I am apalled that anybody would want to do this.(I am an Australian)

RIGHT ON!!! I totally agree with you. Brown is beautiful. Why on earth would anyone want to look white. These products and the companies that make them are pathetic!!!
My mum is white (english) and my dad was filipino and I am a motley patchy colour. I would LOVE to be my dads colour he was so handsome I am so PROUD of him and my mum. WHY OH WHY cant people be happy the way they are, its so sad.
    STOP THE WHITENING NOW!!!

Most minorities outside of Africa Americans and some Mexicans try really hard to be accepted by white people. The reason why whites respect African americans so much is because we don’t play that chit.

We should brainwash them from eating dog meat. They just love their poodles and terriers. YUUUUUMMMMMMYYYY

    Like most Asians…yes.

well in most Asian countries, pale skin is their type of beauitful. (thats what i’ve heard.)
I think it’s dumb though. My friend, who’s filipino, she’s pale and she constantly talks about how she’s so pale and she can pass for being japanese or something. (i really couldn’t care. skin tone is skin tone.)
Most filipinos have olive skin and it looks really nice on them, omg.
(A lot of filipino guys are like hott!)
    omg!!!
